Once known as the Volvo C40 Recharge, which was then rebranded to Volvo EC40, has a new variant added to the lineup. The new Volvo EC40 Single Motor Variant starts at a new price tag and undercuts the Twin-Motor variant by RM 40,000. Here’s what you can expect from the brands’ first-ever EV-Crossover announced earlier in February 2025.
Volvo EC40 Single Motor Variant Malaysia
Expect most of the interior and exterior to be pretty much the same as the Twin-Motor variant; you get all the Volvo Scandinavian goodness in that department. All that nice upholstery and interior, alongside the 9-inch Google built-in centre display, 12.3” driver display, full Safe Space Technology and a pretty decent sound system to keep you entertained while driving – you can still find it in the car.
Where things really change is in the performance department of the Volvo EC40. The new Volvo EC40 Single Motor Variant gets a new price tag at RM 248,888 – which is now RM 40,000 less than the twin-motor EC40. How does it differ? Well, here’s a quick table.

With this performance difference, you do lose a little bit of range, but it does bring the Volvo EC40 Single Motor Variant a little more in the obtainable price point. That said, if you are getting a car to get a slightly higher range out of it, the Single Motor EC40 is a viable option – especially if you want the luxurious experience inside the car.
We have reached out to Volvo Car Malaysia to ask if the Twin-Motor EC40 will be phased out or replaced, as the site currently no longer lists the Twin-Motor and only mentions the availability of the Single-Motor EC40. If you do plan to get the new single-motor variant, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering a one-year car insurance worth RM 5,600 for free, alongside a wallbox charger voucher worth RM 5,000 for a limited time.
In addition to the new single-motor EC40, the car will also be available in a new shade – Sand Dune, initially, an exclusive colour seen on the EX90. This colour will be available alongside the existing classics such as Aurora Silver, Onyx Black and Crystal White.
