OPPO’s Find series has always turned heads in a good way and it has impressed us personally for a while. This time, the brand announces the successor to the X3 and its the OPPO Find X5 Series which comes in two flavors: OPPO Find X5 Pro and Find X5

OPPO Find X5 Pro

The Oppo Find X5 Pro is the successor to the X3 we saw last year and just like how Chinese traditions with numbers work, they have skipped the four on this as it’s a bad luck number. But that aside, the Find X5 Pro uses its predecessor as a foundation and makes it better by improving and including better features and experience in-and-out.

On the front, the phone houses a 6.7” curved AMOLED Display with WQHD+ resolution – which means you are getting some great colors given the fact that AMOLED displays have conquered the smartphone market by a lot. That with the 120Hz refresh rate, the display is as smooth as it can get.

The camera is their focus this time around as they have integrated their own ISP called MariSilicon X instead of relying on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s ISP. So, paired with the custom-made Sony sensors which OPPO has relied on for the longest, ups the ante for them to perform like a flagship smartphone. On the back, you will find three cameras:

  • 50MP Sony IMX766 Ultra-wide Camera
  • 50MP Sony IMX766 Wide Camera
  • 13MP Telephoto Camera with 5x Hybrid Zoom and 20x Digital Zoom

To be very honest, I really want to try how MariSilicon X’s ISP does better than the Qualcomm ISP which is implemented on most flagship smartphones. OPPO promises better AI computing power in situations where it keeps the noise in image lower and colors more accurate, thanks to its 20-bit dynamic range. Other than that, the camera gets a 5-axis OIS system and Hasselblad’s Natural Color Calibration in Pro Mode.

Other than that, since it’s a flagship smartphone – we get Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor coupled with 12GB RAM. To power up the phone for as long as possible, it comes with a 5000mAh battery. If you are wondering about the charging speeds, this phone cranks up to 80W with SUPERVOOC and you can get the phone juiced up to 100% in just few minutes time. Even the wireless charging has been souped up to 50W, which is great. Oh and, this is the first Find X ever to get IP68 rating.

OPPO Find X5

The OPPO Find X5 on the other hand is powered by the same camera setup powered by the MariSilicon X, a 6.5” 120Hz display, 80W SUPERVOOC and 30W AIRVOOC instead. So, think of it as the non-pro but still carrying the pro features under the hood.

There’s no news on the local pricing and availability but that’s something we will have to wait to see. So stay tuned for that.
