The OPPO Enco X2 is OPPO’s brand new true wireless earbuds that was launched last month in tandem with the OPPO Find X5 Pro. Here’s a quick review of the OPPO Enco X2.

HeyMelody unlocks the OPPO Enco X2 even further

What’s special about the OPPO Enco X2 this time around is its integration with OPPO’s HeyMelody app. Through the app, users will be able to access more features and functions of the Enco X2 than what’s stated on the tin. Before we get to that though, let’s take a look at the EncoX2’s specifications.

The OPPO Enco X2 includes the SuperDBEE acoustic system, which was developed in collaboration with Nordic audio giant Dynaudio. In addition, the earbuds have 11mm adaptive drivers and quad-magnetic planar tweeters. According to OPPO, the tweeters can deliver higher-resolution treble performance for a clearer overall sound.

The Enco X2 also has longer battery life than its predecessor, up to 40 hours with the case, though this time is cut in half if LHDC 4.0 is enabled. The earbuds also support Qi wireless charging and fast charging, allowing for 2 hours of playback after only 5 minutes of charging.

Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, IP54 water and dust resistance, active noise cancelling, and anti-earwax ear tips are among the other OPPO Enco X2 features. The Enco X2 is also the first TWS earbuds to support binaural recording for true-to-life audio.

Now let’s get back to the OPPO Enco X2’s integration with HeyMelody. I have used the HeyMelody app before with the OPPO Enco Air2 and even then I was quite impressed with the features as basic as it was. With the OPPO Enco X2, the HeyMelody app unlocks even more customisation features than I was actually prepared for.

Through the HeyMelody app, users can switch between ANC (active noise cancelling) and transparency mode, where users can hear external ambient noise. What’s more, is that users can even customise the level of noise cancellation depending on the user’s current environment. I like this as strong ANC sometimes gives me headaches like the Redmi Buds 3 Pro.

Here’s another customisation option that pretty much blew my mind. You can actually customise what’s called the Golden Sound, a sound profile that’s tailored to you through your hearing and the shape of your ear canal. The app will play a sound through the left and right earbuds at different frequencies to determine your hearing characteristics.

The difference between the sound with and without my sound profile is pretty striking. My custom ‘Golden Sound’ profile offered a richer sound that focuses more on the medium to low frequencies. A pretty cool feature if I do say so myself.

Another useful feature that I didn’t know I needed was an ‘earbud fit test’. Basically, the app will tell you whether you have your earbuds on perfectly or not. It does so by playing a tune for a few seconds while you’re wearing the OPPO Enco X2 and it will determine whether the earbuds are in your ears perfectly.

Other features that you can customise via the HeyMelody app include a selection of EQ settings from Dynaudio, a Game Mode and Dual Connection that lets you connect the OPPO Enco X2 to two separate devices at the same time and switch between the two.

One thing that I find a bit weird is that the Game Mode can only be toggled through the HeyMelody app. I feel like OPPO should include the option to switch between Game Mode, ANC and Transparency Mode straight from the earbuds via the touch sensors. That would be more intuitive, especially for mobile gamers looking to game immediately.

You can also customise the touch sensors on the OPPO Enco X2 through the app which is useful, especially for those who aren’t used to the default ones like I am.

Ultimately, I feel that the app integration of the OPPO Enco X2 is among the best I’ve had the pleasure of using and I hope that future OPPO TWS products will include this level of customisation or more.

You can purchase the OPPO Enco X2 at a retail price of RM799 through the official OPPO stores on Shopee and Lazada, the OPPO Official Online Store or any official Authorised OPPO Retailers.

We have more to talk about the OPPO Enco X2, so make sure you keep an eye (or in this case, your ear) for that on The Adventures of Vesper.
