Twitter has been laser-focused on providing updates and new features to improve the Twitter experience in the first half of 2022, from Spaces and Communities to Birdwatch and the DM pin feature.
In Malaysia, Twitter introduced new ways for people to express themselves on the site, and a slew of new Spaces features provide even more opportunities for people to connect and converse. The social media giant has also expanded on its work with the creative community from last year, introducing Twitter Create, a new location for creator tools.
Here’s an overview of the new features and improvements that Malaysians have been enjoying on the social media platform in the first half of 2022.
Empowering people to use Twitter on their own terms
Twitter has continued to improve the Spaces experience with the following improvements made since January 2022:
- Recording & Playback – Spaces can now be recorded by the Host, and recordings can be played back indefinitely after the Space ends.
- Clipping – Users can now clip and share the best 30 seconds from your Spaces conversation.
- Make it easy – It’s now easier for hosts to start a Space and Tweet about it, browse & discover Spaces, react to a Space, move from Tweets to Spaces, and access analytics afterwards.
Helping people feel safe & adding context on Twitter

Twitter strives to provide everyone with the tools and context they require to feel comfortable on the platform. The service recognises the importance of context when selecting what and who to trust, and it makes the public conversation safer for all of its users.
- Automated Accounts Labels – The social networking platform has introduced a new method for those who run automated accounts to self-identify their accounts. This will also assist users who connect with automated accounts (or bots) in better understanding who is behind the account.
- Have private discussions on Direct Messages (DM) – The social media platform added the ability to pin DM convos to the top of their direct message inbox, as well as expanded search features to include keywords and usernames, allowing users to search their inbox by typing in a term and username.
- Easier to understand privacy policy and Twitter Data Dash game – Twitter’s privacy policy website has been changed to make it easier to comprehend, and a fun privacy game has been released.
- New reporting flow – The service intends to make it easier for everyone around the world to report potentially hazardous or offensive Tweets. This improvement came after they noted a 50% increase in actionable reports during testing.
- Reply Prompts – The social media service rolled out reply prompts to everyone with their device settings in English globally, Portuguese in Brazil, Spanish in Mexico, Turkish globally, and Arabic in Saudi Arabia after seeing that people changed or deleted potentially harmful replies more than 30% of the time when prompted in English and 47% of the time when prompted in Portuguese (BR).
- Sensitive Media Labels – People can now add one-time cautions to photos and videos containing sensitive content that they Tweet. Now accessible globally on Web and Android, with some testing on iOS.
- Unmention – A new control that allows you to silently exit a single Tweet, thread, or conversation.

New tools for creators on Twitter
Creators from all around the world drive the cultural discourse on Twitter by expressing their perspectives and forming communities around them. The social media platform is evolving with creators in mind, and the company is dedicated to assisting Malaysian and global creators in building their own voice, audience, and business.
Twitter introduced its new Twitter Create website (previously Twitter Media) in H1, a new place for creators to obtain creator tools, product information, best practices, and advice, as well as share interviews with creators on Twitter.
Making Twitter more accessible
To serve the global public conversation, the social media platform must be accessible to everybody. The service has been working hard to improve its accessibility features, with a focus on media, including:
- ALT text badges – ALT badges, which explain images to aid accessibility, are now available on iOS, Android, and PC worldwide.
- Closed Caption Toggle – With a new toggle button, you can easily select whether or not to display closed captions when viewing video tweets. Available worldwide on iOS, Android, and PC.
