Personally, I have been using my Acer Predator X27, the one with the Quantum Dot Display at 4K resolution – we call it the crème de la crème of monitors, for the longest. Right now, it is suffering from some backlight issue which I am trying to fix but from the looks of it, fixing it isn’t going to be cheap. Now, that OLED monitors are becoming more of a thing – we finally got to see the Acer Predator X27U OLED and their curved option at Computex 2023. You know what, I really want that Acer Predator X27U OLED.

There are two different OLED monitors Acer Predator has, one is the 45” version and the other one is this: the Acer Predator X27U OLED. Now just like the name suggests, it is a 27” inch monitor with a 2560×1440 resolution on an OLED panel, with a whopping 240Hz refresh rate and hitting 1000-nit brightness with 0.01ms response time. This has got to be the cutting-edge gaming monitor every person would want.

From what we know, this monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and HDR10 instead of NVIDIA G-Sync which not only the older X27 features but even the more recent X28 with the NVIDIA Reflex has it. But this shouldn’t be a huge deal breaker, given how AdaptiveSync works across any kind of monitor and NVIDIA users should have no issues whatsoever.

As for the port selection, the Acer Predator X27U OLED has a decent set – with two HDMI 2.0 which is a bummer as I do wish it had at least one HDMI 2.1, followed by DisplayPort 1.4, a USB-C capable of doing 90W PD Charging, USB-B Uplink which gives two USB 3.2 Type A output, a headphone jack and finally a power adapter.

Credit where it’s due, the design of this entire monitor is the cleanest and most fine-looking gaming monitor I have seen in a while with no branding on the display, giving absolute immersive-ness. Following that, you have a thin OLED panel, a nice stand which looks sleek and the only area where you will see the Predator Insignia. If you are a fan of those curved monitors and want something huge… then there’s the X45.

The Acer Predator X45 OLED is a different kind of monster and you best bet it is going to be a whole lot pricier than the X27U. It is a 45” Ultrawide panel that’s extremely thin and touts a resolution of 3440 X 1440 on an OLED panel – this resolution directly translates to UWQHD. On top of that, it too, gets a 240Hz refresh rate with 0.01ms response time with 1000-nits brightness and once again supports AMD FreeSync Premium and HDR10.

Ports wise we have the same set of I/O which we are not going to repeat as it’s exactly the same. However, it does have a KVM switch, making life a whole lot easier when connected to multiple devices. We aren’t too sure if the X27U has a KVM but we will update very soon.

After experiencing it, I have to say, given that OLED panels have evolved a lot, getting the Curved or the Flat monitor is going to give the exact OLED experience. However, if you want more of that immersive ness at the 800R curvature – then you are going to love the Acer Predator X45 OLED.

We have a good chance of seeing this monitor entering the Malaysian market and you know what, I’d totally want one – maybe it just might be the replacement for the X27 I have. Although, that would mean I have to bid farewell to the best monitor I’ve ever owned. 🥺

Well, time will tell…
