Since the last time we reviewed the Pico 4 VR headset, the company has been rather quiet ever since and in fact, there were even rumours about Pico shutting down, exactly 10 months ago from posting this article. But somehow, they are back with Pico 4 Ultra MR, and yes, you read that right. This time their Mixed Reality is the new addition to the lineup and Malaysia is one of the first few countries to get it, alongside the Pico Motion Tracker.

Pico 4 Ultra MR Malaysia

The Pico 4 Ultra MR takes a page out of their very own Pico 4 and adds additional hardware to make it a Mixed Reality capable headset. For one, it runs on the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, which is the toned-down version of the “plus” Processorwe saw on the Play For Dream MR, a potential contender that’s about to make its way into Malaysia later this year. Coupled with that are 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 Storage, which is more than enough for you to store all your VR and MR applications natively to run whatever you want.

From the sensor standpoint, the Pico 4 Ultra MR houses dual 32MP colour passthrough cameras on the front (which is not found on the Pico 4), an iToF (Time of Flight) depth-sensing camera and four environment tracking camera (vs 6DoF Tracking on Pico 4). On the inside, behind those pancake lenses which offer 105-degree FoV with 20.6 PPD are the 2.56-inch screen per eye with the resolution of 2160 x 2160 with 1200 ppi at 90 Hz refresh rate. One big improvement in our opinion is the IPD adjustment as it now starts from 58mm to 72mm (vs. 62-72mm on Pico 4).

You still find the similar Dual Stereo Speakers but now with double the microphones at 4, which gives you support for spatial audio recording – a feature that goes synonymously with Mixed Reality headsets. You do get a bigger battery at 5700mAh with support for QC 4.0 and PD 3.0 with support for 45W fast charging (although the charger is not included). The controllers remain to use the same AA batteries, which is good. Finally, as for the connectivity – these headsets support WiFi 7 with Bluetooth 5.3.

The controller loses its halo, so now it’s a halo-free controller.

Pico Motion Tracker

Alongside the Pico 4 Ultra MR, they’ve launched the Pico Motion Tracker which straps onto your legs – to give a better detection of the floors for better plane detection in the Virtual space. Inside the Pico Motion Tracker, you’ll find an IMU Sensor with 12 IR Sensors which provides DoF tracking. With the help of “AI”, it can map the 24 skeleton points and provides a 20ms low latency output with almost no delays.

For those who own the Pico 4, the Pico Motion Tracker is supported along with the newer Pico 4 Ultra.
