The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Brings New Life with the Perfect PDA Form | Hands-On

Generations after generation, Samsung has been improving the foldables with the right kind of hardware but personally, up until last year, the Fold was never in my “must have” list, due to the odd proportions which I still don’t like and resemble a remote control and I have to open up the display every time to use it properly. But now that fold is the Fold Ultra, and the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, takes a whole new shape and this is what I have been waiting for all these while.

Hello, Perfect Display Ratios in and Out

Samsung nailed the display aspect ratio in and out because for the first time, the display on the outside is far more usable than the Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Z Fold 8 has a close to 16:10 aspect ratio and has a 5.5” display. Which means this is a great small foldable smartphone and I have always wanted one like this. In fact, it shares the similar shape as a Blackberry Passport or pretty much a real passport I’d say.

Now once you unfold, it now gives you a 7.6” inch display in a 4:3 aspect ratio which is perfect for split screen as it would give you two 4:3 ish aspect ratio display which again is the right dimensions for a foldable. Nothing weird at all. Samsung’s reason to do this was interesting…

Made with Entertainment in Mind

The whole target demographic Samsung is aiming to please with the Z Fold 8 are content consumers and that’s me. I do enjoy watching shows, reading books, articles, and of course work on my tablet. And this 7.6” display now gives the perfect ratio for me to consume content with no issue or odd ratios as well. We did try to read and watch some trailers, which I have to say, the feel was definitely different from the Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Flip Cameras On a Fold

Unfortunately, if you are looking for a triple-camera setup, well that’s a bummer because with the Z Fold 8, you pretty much get the same setup as the Flip 8: which is an Ultra-wide and a Wide camera, both with 50MP and the selfie cameras are 10MP in and out.

New and Improved Hinge with Titanium Plate

We spoke about this in a whole another article but to give a gist: Samsung has replaced and improved the display by reinforcing with a Titanium Alloy Film and Titanium plate, dubbed as the Flex Titanium Technology. Metals don’t flex easily and repeated flex can break, so they made a Titanium alloy film which helps with the flexibility, with the help of advanced hole engineering technology that creates a lattice structure to handle the folding and unfolding action. This new alloy sheet also eliminates the air gaps because of the new adhesive. And then the Titanium plate reinforces the display as a whole, so when you use it, you don’t feel like you are tapping on plastic but it feels like a proper display.

No S Pen Support (Womp Womp)

The Fold 7 lost its S Pen support which is a big shame and looks like that continues here. Both the Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra does not support S Pen. So, for my S Pen fans out there, you are limited to their tablets or their S series smartphones.

Other Aspects of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

There’s no reason to get the Z Fold 8 Ultra Unless…

With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, which I feel is the fantastic aspect ratio in and out, and just having a much usable cover display makes a world of a difference if you ask me, all in all it’s the phone consumers should buy. The only reason one should go for the Ultra is if you are in dire need of that 3x Telephoto, 5000mAh battery and a much brighter inner display.

We are getting our hands on the Z Fold 8 and this is one phone that got us excited for 2026, so, let’s see how good really the phone is in our review.
