Gaming laptops are getting pretty impressive with today’s specification and the amount of goodness it holds within, give it the opportunity to shine when it needs to. But the issue is portability because gaming laptops are bulky, but what if I told you ASUS made a gaming tablet, that’s versatile and has enough power and should you need any more, gives you the room to expand. Here’s the ASUS ROG FLOW Z13 Initial Impressions.

ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Malaysia

A Gamer-esque Design

1/3

Just like the ROG Flow we have seen last year, the 2-in-1 gaming laptop, the ROG Flow Z13 takes the same steps: in being different and has some interesting design cues that if you are one to appreciate intricate details, chances are you will love the ROG Flow Z13. Like the RGB enabled panel where you can see the actual motherboard, some ROG tagline, code number and a rubberized tag at the bottom. Since it’s a tablet, most of its component is baked into it and the Keyboard sleeve is detachable, just like the Vivobook Slate OLED we reviewed.

The keyboard has RGB as well and a small trackpad which is decent enough for you to use. But to be frank, the ROG Flow Z13 seems like the device that you would pair your XBOX controller and play without the keyboard sleeves, which also means you could pretty much game anywhere and everywhere. In the plane, in a car, at home, the possibility is endless.

In terms of ports, the tablet has limited number of them – on one side you have a USB 2.0 A, Headphone Jack, Volume Rocker, Power Button which claims to double as fingerprint sensor and on the other side, we have a USB-C thunderbolt port, and the XG Mobile connector.

For thermals, it has a lot of cutouts, on the top, on the side and even on the back – and given it has some heavy specification crammed into such shell, it’s necessary.

Specification-wise

Now specification wise, we are getting two variants and the specification are as follows. Now, the specification you see below is just the tablet, that will be made available. The variant on the very right, is the one that will be bundled with the XG Mobile.

The XG Mobile: Power to Expand

Now here’s the catch – the XG Mobile will be available, but it only comes bundled with one variant and that’s the 60Hz 500nits WQUXGA Display which is a bummer given that the 120Hz 500nits variant is where I can see it excelling very well. But anyways, here’s the specification we will be getting for the XG Mobile and yes, we are not getting the AMD variant:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 16GB GDDR6 150W
  • 1x HDM1 2.0b, DP 1.4 support G-SYNC, RJ-45 LAN Port, DC Input Jack
  • 4x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x SD Card Reader UHS-II
