Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 First Look | Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Malaysia Price
Every two generations of Foldables from Samsung have pretty much been identical in more ways than one. While I did like the Z Flip 4, it was merely an upgrade from the Z Flip 3, which did pretty much the same. But this time, we finally have more things to talk about the new Flip – in this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 First Look, we are here to share what’s new and upgraded.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 First Look
Good Riddance 128GB Variant
Now, globally the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 128GB variant, which concerned me a lot because one of the biggest complaints we had with the Z Flip 4 was the limiting storage. My brother, who uses the same Z Flip4 we reviewed here as his daily said that the storage is a bit limiting. But that’s no longer an issue because the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts at 256GB and the max storage available for it is 512GB. So, rejoice – I am genuinely happy to see this change and thanks for listening to us.
The new 3.4” Flex Window Display
The biggest thing to talk about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 happens to be that front display – and yes, based on the leaks. It’s true – we finally get a big 3.4” display which is far more usable than the puny 1”+ inch display on the Z Flip 4, which pretty much serves as a vanity display. That said, this new 3.4” display which they are calling it the Flex Window, has more room to do things. It’s customizable with upto 14 widgets, supports Samsung Pay without opening the phone and you can pinch the display for a quick glance.
That said, the front display is now a whole lot more usable – with more app support coming soon. At the moment, if you happen to use WhatsApp as your daily communication tool, well now, you can message right from the Flex Window without needing to open the phone anymore. This also means that you don’t have to fold and unfold, cutting the lifespan of those hinges further. But speaking of that, the phone uses a new hinge.
Samsung Flex Hinge: Bye Gap, Hello Gapless
Samsung is using a completely new hinge for their Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 (which you can read all about it here) and this hinge is incorporated with a new module with a dual rail that folds the display with a teardrop curve.
Now, because it still folds in a way that it curves, the crease is here to stay but one thing that’s most definitely going to turn heads – is the gapless fold. Yep, it now folds flat. The new mechanic is certified for 200,000 folds, making it more durable than the last generation. The main display uses the same Ultra Thin Glass by the way.
The other Upgrades are…
Other than the three important improvements for us, the rest of the phone remains to be the same. The design of the phone is essentially the same as its processor and can be customized for a Bespoke edition. The 6.7” Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with 120Hz still blows everyone’s eyes with its poppy and peppy colours. The phone comes in 4 different colours – Graphite, Cream, Lavender and Mint which is pretty beautiful.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy with 8GB RAM. The battery capacity has not increased and remains at 3700mAh, which might be a bummer for heavy users like myself. The wired charging caps at 25W for fast charging supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and PowerShare. Finally, the phone has an IPX8 certification.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Malaysia Price
As I mentioned earlier, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes in two different variants: 256GB, priced at RM 4,499, and 512GB at RM 4,999. Overall, we do see RM 100 increase with both variants from its predecessor. Now, that’s not a bad increase, in fact, it is still in the more justifiable price range. But given how our currency is, we might not see an affordable foldable anytime soon. So, I guess we have to stick with what we see for now. But you know what, I’ll pick this Z Flip 5 over the 4 any day.
There are some interesting promos happening – which you can click here to find out.
