Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 First Look | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Malaysia Pricing
As much as we were ecstatic about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, which does have some new improvements, some shared with the Fold 5, there isn’t much to get excited about the Fold 5. For the most part, it’s the same as the Z Fold 4 which we checked out last year. While there are some granular improvements – if you happen to be a Z Fold 4 owner, there’s very little reason to upgrade to this new one. Let’s talk about it in this Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 First Look.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 First Look
The Same Fold you knew, but with 2023 Hardware
For the most part, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has the same dimensions, ratio and design as the Z Fold 4 and even the 3 to an extent. But there are some granular changes like its 10g less in weight (253g) and 2.4mm less in thickness (13.4mm). On the outside, we still have the same 6.2” inch display that looks like a remote control and on the inside, it still has the same 7.6” display with the under-display camera. Now there is a bit of an upgrade here as it now hits a 1750 peak nit brightness and 1200 nits in HBM.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, with 12GB RAM and storage options from 256GB, 512GB and 1TB respectively. The vapour chamber cooling has a bigger surface area to cool which is at 38% – which should equate to better thermals. The Battery is still at 4400mAh with no increase.
The New Hinge giving Gapless Finish is nice
We talked about the new Flex Hinge in our Z Flip 5 First Look article, and it’s the same Hinge we see here. The new hinge has an integrated hinge module with dual rail and has 200,000-fold certified which makes the mechanism a whole lot more durable than its predecessor. On the inside, we still have the Ultra Thin Glass which folds with a teardrop arch, and sadly the crease is here to stay. But hey, it closes with no gap this time.
Improving on the Experience
Samsung’s focus on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 happens to be on the software more than the hardware this time around. That’s alright because there aren’t many foldable devices that have good quality software which is adaptable across both displays. You might notice that the Android version is 13 and not 13L, but you don’t have to worry about it because Android has incorporated all the L features from 12L into 13 and made the software unified under one name.
From here, with the new One UI 5.1.1, Samsung has added more features like now the taskbar can hold upto 4 recent apps and favourite apps, better multiwindow support, a new flex mode panel, and a two-handed drag and drop which feels more like what you could do with Windows and that’s great. The new S Pen that it comes with, which is sold separately is now 41% slimmer and fits in the casing very well. So, your productivity with this device is a lot more optimized.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Malaysia Pricing
Samsung Malaysia is bringing all three storage options into the market and it will be available in three colours: Icy Blue, Phantom Black and Cream. There are two exclusive colours: Gray and Blue. The pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 256GB starts at RM 6,799, followed by RM7,299 for 512GB and RM 8,299 for the 1TB with limited quantities available. The pricing for the Z Fold 5 remains the same as the Z Fold 4 which is an absolute relief and this only goes to show that there aren’t huge improvements but more on the granular end.
That said, there are some pre-order deals you shouldn’t miss, which you can find here.
