Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Hands On

Looks the Same, But There’s Slight Improvement

1/5

If you go, “why does it look the same and I don’t feel like I am missing a lot” – Well, we don’t blame you, in fact, if we were to go based on the renders, we’d feel the same way. But it’s when we got it in our hands, we saw the subtle changes. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 now has a much more flatter side rails, improved hinges, and the black plastic-y bits inside the display is gone for more display room. It’s a lot more refined and now the colored glasses are matte in finish.

Bespoke is Coming to Malaysia

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes in 4 colours for you to choose from but if you want the ability to customize the way you like it then, Samsung is also bringing in the Bespoke customizability where you can make your own custom Z Flip 4 from the 70+ combination made available.

More Improvements on the Mini Display than anything else

The main improvement with the Z Flip 4 revolves around the 1.9” display on the front which had limited functionality with the last generation. This time around, you will notice that they have improved the functionality of it with more features like the ability to have more widgets, quick settings and more.

128GB needs to be phased out, but there’s also a 512GB

Now one of the things about the Z Flip 4 is that the phone comes in three different variants with a fixed 8GB RAM which is okay really. But in terms of storage, it starts at 128GB, followed by a 256GB and all the way up to 512GB. In today’s world 128GB does barely little and given that it still is being offered, and the phone has a lack of MicroSD card slot, it makes it a bit of a tough pill to swallow. Which is why phasing out the 128GB would be a good idea. We said it before, we say it again and we will say it in the future.

Specs-wise

As for the specification, expect the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 to offer the state of the arc of a specification for 2022 and you can see the table below.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Hands On

It’s Wee-bit Shorter and Wider

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has been that “transformable” smartphone all this while. This time around, they have taken the time to polish the fit and finish of the smartphone, both inside and outside. With that said, the phone has gotten a bit shorter and the display on the outside is now in a newer ratio coming in at 23.1:9 (vs 24.5:9 with the Fold 3). Not just that, internally, the display now its at 7.2” and it rather has a square-ish dimension than the rectangular dimensions we have seen in the older generation.

Otherwise, the phone feels quite alright with the new Graygreen colour being my personal favourite.

Android 12L with OneUI is doing its Magic for Better Experience

Android 12L set to improve the experience for foldable devices – specifically the ones that has two functional display which behaves like a proper phone and tablet. In this case, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes baked with Android 12L and to make things sweeter, OneUI is making things happen with this phone in more ways than you could imagine. The tablet like screen now has dock at the bottom which emulates like a Windows or Dex dock that gives you access to every other app without going back and use it like how a proper desktop mode would work.

Just one of the many improvements we have seen.

Similar Camera Setup as the S22+, which is an Upgrade

On the back of the phone, the camera has been upgraded to the same as Samsung Galaxy S22+ system. So, what you do have here is a triple camera setup and it comes in a 12MP, 50MP and 10MP configuration, with the 10MP being a space zoom offering up to 30x and 3x optical.

Foldable Exclusive

There is an exclusive offer made available for Malaysia where the foldable devices will not come with just one but two years of warranty. Samsung will also be offering 3x protective film replacement for the Fold’s UTG and whereas the Flip will get 1x replacement.

Pricing and Availability

As for the pricing, this time around, we do see there is a steep increase, making it a pricey phone to afford. So, which means, to see an affordable Foldable device is nowhere in sight for the time being. Something to remember. Stay tuned to Samsung Malaysia on the pre-order details.
